Traffic stop leads to felony drug arrest

On February 18, 2018 at around 10 pm in the area of exit 12 on the westbound side of I90, Schodack Police stopped a vehicle for speeding. An interview and investigation led to the arrest of Owen M. Bassick, 19 of Norfolk, NY and Brian R. Karsberg, 19 of Medway, MA. Karsberg was the passenger in the vehicle. He was arrested for criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th degree (misdemeanor) and unlawful possession of marijuana (violation). Bassick was the driver of the vehicle. He was arrested for criminal possession of a controlled substance 5th degree (felony), criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th degree (misdemeanor), unlawful possession of marijuana (violation), and speeding in zone (infraction). Both Bassick and Karsberg were arraigned in Town of Schodack Court. Bassick was remanded to Rensselaer County Jail in lieu of $1000.00 cash bail or $2500.00 bail bond. Bassick was scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Town of Schodack Court on 02/22/2018 at 1:00pm. Karsberg was released to Rensselaer County Probation Day Reporting and scheduled to reappear in Town of Schodack Court on 03/14/2018 at 6:00pm.
