Serious traffic accident at intersection of Columbia Turnpike and State Route 150

On May 11, 2018 at around 5:00 pm the Town of Schodack Police Department responded to the report of a serious auto accident at the intersection of Columbia Turnpike (State Route 9&20) and State Route 150. A preliminary investigation indicates that a tractor trailer was traveling westbound on Columbia Turnpike while a Chevrolet Cavalier was in the eastbound turning lane to head northbound on State Route 150. The investigation of the scene indicates that the car turned into the path of the tractor trailer and the two vehicles collided. One person was transported by medical airlift to Albany Medical Center. Two people were transported to Albany Medical Center by Castleton Ambulance Corps. New York State Police and New York State Police SRU worked with Schodack Police on the investigation. Nassau Police Department and Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the investigation. The identities of the individuals involved in the accident are being withheld pending gathering additional information. New York State DEC was on scene to address a diesel fuel spill from the tractor trailer. New York State DOT was on scene to address the damaged traffic control device. Schodack Highway Department was on scene to address any impact to the water and sewer lines in the area. Additional information will be released as it become available.
