On May 14, 2018 Schodack Police were conducting a follow up investigation of the serious personal injury automobile accident that occurred on May 11, 2018 on Columbia Turnpike at state route 150. Detective Sergeant Thomas discovered a loaded unregistered handgun in the possession of one of the operators involved in the accident. Fernando Paz Abad, 36 of Austin, TX was charged with a felony charge of criminal possession of a firearm (NYS Penal Law 265.01-b Abad was the operator of the tractor trailer involved in the accident. Abad was arraigned before Town Justice Wagner and remanded to Rensselaer County Jail in lieu of $5,000.00 cash or surety bond. Abad is scheduled to reappear in town court on May 17, 2018 at 5:00pm for a preliminary hearing.
